Biobizkaia is the Health Research Institute that supports the health R&D&I of the Osakidetza Health Organizations in Bizkaia: OSI Ezkerraldea Enkarterri Cruces, OSI Bilbao Basurto, OSI Barrualde Galdakao, Bizkaia Mental Health Network, Barakaldo-Sestao Integrated Health Organization (OSI), Uribe Integrated Health Organization (OSI), Gorliz Hospital, and Santa Marina Hospital; to create value and generate an impact on health and quality of life for society.
We consider innovation to be the introduction of new services, products, processes, or organizational methods that provide value, achieve sustainable health outcomes over time, and improve our competitiveness and the biotechnology ecosystem.

We need to collaborate with companies and other scientific and technological stakeholders to connect research with clinical needs, sharing development and scaling capacity, accelerating technology transfer, and ensuring that technologies reach the healthcare system with quality, safety, and sustainability.
We work jointly with the innovation units of the healthcare organizations. We facilitate relationships with organizations from other sectors, companies, institutions, and other stakeholders to promote and encourage the design and co-creation of new products and services.

As an Institute, we focus on scientific and technological innovations. We manage technology transfer through BIOEF's Technology Transfer Office (OTRI).

A presentation at a conference, the defense of a doctoral thesis, or a publication in a journal would fulfill the novelty requirement. Once the patent application has been filed, the invention's content can be published in scientific journals and disseminated through other means, without waiting for its grant. The Innovation Platform is part of the ITEMAS Platform for the revitalization and innovation of the NHS's industrial capabilities and their effective transfer to the productive sector (ITEMAS ISCIII). It aims to promote translational research, generating innovation in the non-pharmaceutical sector of health technologies and materials, specifically regarding equipment, devices, reagents, materials, and ICT in healthcare.
