RRI
RRI: What is it?
Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) emerged as an approach to Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) that should take into account the potential effects and impacts on the environment and society. This approach was incorporated into the European Framework Programs.
RRI can be defined as "a transparent and interactive process in which societal actors and innovators are mutually responsible for the (ethical) acceptability, sustainability, and social desirability of the innovation process and its marketable products, in order to enable the appropriate incorporation of scientific and technological advances into our society." (René von Schomberg (2013))
RRI establishes an integrated approach, taking society into account in the R&D&I process, seeking to achieve more open science and focusing on equality, sustainability, and responsibilities between societal actors and innovators.
The six principles of RRI are:
Citizen participation
Main objective: To take into account the perspective of citizens and publicize the activities of the IIS.
Taking into account the perspective of citizens from a participatory perspective in the IIS (structures and projects/trials), assessing their needs to define strategies and report on the results of research and innovation activities.
